My training in mindfulness really began in 2010  when I began the PGDip mindfulness studies with Aberdeen Uni and had teaching and practice  weekends at Samye Ling monastery in the borders led by meditation teacher Rob Nairn

"You are all neurotic messes," he told us,  "and that is ok."
This was a tremendous relief to me.

I learned  that mindfulness was a felt experience and a continuing inquiry into what it is to be alive on this planet right now. I began to realise that my mind wasn’t my brain and that my body and my heart were a big part of who I am. Life often shuts part the heart off and as mine began to open  with the practice,  I felt a mixture of relief, pain, confusion and happiness, and that this was all quite normal - part of being a human being. Rob Nairn also went on to teach that we can be more than a neurotic mess, we can be a compassionate mess and from this place of imperfection we can learn and grow.

That mindfulness is both a mind and heart training became apparent and I continue to learn and practice mindfulness with both secular and Buddhist teachers.
This is ongoing and I  constantly have to remind myself:

I began teaching in and around Perthshire in 2013.

I have extensive experience of working with groups both through mindfulness and in my work as a mental health nurse.  I provide a variety of mindfulness and compassion based training in groups in local communities such as Perth, Pitlochry, Aberfeldy and Blairgowrie, and also healing relaxation.

I also provide one to one sessions  to enable people to use relaxation, mindfulness and compassion in the context of their lives and moments of difficulty. This also includes mentoring and supervision for mindfulness teachers.
I am currently training in Compassion Focused Therapy and can offer this as a trainee therapist.

I have worked in collaboration with: The Wellbeing Support Team; Perth College and Perth and Kinross Council;  Perth and Kinross Care and Wellbeing  Collective;  and through the mindful partnership with Tayside Council on Alcohol.

Through the training I offer I wish to meet people where they are at. Anywhere is a good starting point for mindfulness. It often isn’t what people think it is and they are surprised by what they find when they begin to include their inner experience as an important aspect of life, rather than something to ignore.

When I started mindfulness training and learned I could change habitual patterns, that my brain wasn’t hard wired, I thought I would become Wonder Woman!  But instead what I have found is that I can be ok being me, that I may not be Wonder Woman but I am so much more than my habits and my thinking would lead me to believe.
